Mediabox is a £6 million Department of Children Schools and Families fund to help young people have a positive voice in the media. It offers disadvantaged 13-19 year olds the opportunity to develop and produce creative media projects, using film, television, print, radio or online platforms.
Mediabox has offered grants ranging from £100 to £80,000, for projects to be completed and distributed by March 2008. Mediabox is delivered by a consortium led by First Light Movies, in partnership with Media Trust, Skillset and the UK Film Council.
"My Mediabox" is for 13 to 19 year olds to apply individually or in groups for one-off project funding. It has a simple and quick application process – applications can be made anytime, as long as the projects are finished by March 2008. We aim to make a decision in about three weeks.
Mediabox works closely with a network of delivery partners consisting of the English Regional Screen Agencies (EM Media, North West Vision, South West Screen, Screen East, Screen South, Screen West Midlands, Northern Film & Media, Film London and Screen Yorkshire). They provide regional services around pre-application support and assessment on behalf of Mediabox and offer additional assistance to funded organisations: http://www.media-box.co.uk
